Visa for Thailand

Marriage Registration

If you are a foreigner and wishing to register your marriage in Thailand then the procedures are as follows.

STEP ONE

You need to go to your embassy in Bangkok and obtain a letter stating that you are single and bale to get married in Thailand. This is called a letter of affirmation. Normally this takes 48 hours to obtain so if you do not live in Bangkok then you might as well look for a hotel for a 3 days as that is how long the process is going to take. If you have been divorced or your wife has died then you need to have copies of these when you fill in the forms at the embassy. The process at the embassies are all the same. Once you obtain this letter of affirmation you need to proceed to step 2.

STEP TWO

Once you have your letter of affirmation you need to have this letter certified at the Thai Department of Foreign Affairs. This is close to the old airport in Rangsit and this normally takes a day to complete. What they do is verify that the letter from the embassy is not fake by checking the letter against their templates. This normally takes a few hours so bring a newspaper or a book while you wait. Once they are complete they will place a stamp on the back of the documents saying that the documents has been verified. Now its time for step 3.

STEP THREE

Once oyu have the document it needs to be take down to the local Ampurs office which is the District Registration office in the area. This is where you hand all those documents in and fill in another form. It costs about 50Baht and takes about an hour to have your marriage certificate issued. You are now legally married to a Thai citizen.
